ABC Runners at Garlick Avenue on 24 July 2011. Choon Chiang presents recce report of new route.

Recce Report from Goh Choon Chiang.

After Bt Timah Visitor Centre, we followed Hindede Walk and ran about 300m to Rail Mall.  Waited a while for Tan Keng Yam but ended up Tan Cheng Ku.  Noticed much rubbish on the railway track.  For 79 years , the track was clean  and after three weeks opened to the public , we have people continuing their littering habit here .  There was even a can lined up properly on the rail itself.  Nai Eng boey tahan and picked up some of the rubbish and put them in the trash bin nearby.

We recced Car Park A along Dairy Farm Rd  ( near Salvation Army ) , followed by Car Park B  ( near the Dairy Farm/ Petir Rd junction).  There is a toilet at Car Park B with sinks which can be used for washing up purpose.

We returned by Belukar Trail /  Pipeline Axis , cross over Rifle Range Rd to Kg Chantek and back to Garlick.   Total recce distance about 13 Km.  Time taken 1 hrs 50 mins.   Good practice for Tiger Trail.

Assessment :  Car Park B can be used as a staging point for either the Gansa Route or a modified Bt Timah reserve route.

17 July 2011 Run from Dempsey Road

From Goh Choon Chiang: Despite the turning up of our long absent Mark Lim-Lim-Lim, we did not manage to make it double digit attendance. Of the nine starters, three went tree spotting in Botanic Garden and the other six checked out someone's house and confirmed that the guards were still deployed there. Choy May ran from Dempsey to Thomson Medical Center to go to work. She took 45 mins.

For breakfast at Ah Seng, things came in double portion -  Yu Char Kueh and Chye Tau Kueh.  Even the eggs were overcooked.  Wen Eng and David Teo joined us for breakfast.   New running routes - Gansa route with bathing facilities and city route without bathing facilities - were discussed.

17 July 2011 Sunday Run will start from Dempsey Road at 6.30am

I was at the SingTel Run against Cancer at East Coast Park last Sunday.  There were 3 official runners - myself, Shih Pin doing the 15 km and Mahean doing the 10km (masquerading as Dear Leader). There were 1 unofficial runner (Vidya) and 1 observer  (Pei Lin).  There was supposed to be 7000 runners but it look a bit less than that. So, there was too much of a jam either at the front or along the way.

The other group went to the railway line from Temasek Club. From the photos, it looks like more photo session than a running session. And I think it is a shorter run than the one to Mt Faber.

This Sunday, we will take a break from the railway tracks and do a light run. So, back to Dempsey Rd.  See you at the usual time this Sunday - 6.30 am at Dempsey.

Regards
Yoke Weng

11 ABC runners turned up for the Railway Track / Ghim Moh / Portsdown Run

Goh Choon Chiang writes: Eleven persons turned up today. Instead of following the planned route of 8.5 km ( with 500 m running on track), we ran 1 km on track all the way to Ghim Moh area and then turned back using on Buona Vista Rd to Science Park Rd and did a short cut back to Temasek Club.  Distance taken was 5.8km. Apart from free parking, free use of pool, free towel and free beers were made available to attendees.  The promised free massage was not offered as the masseuse went AWOL and did not turn up. Breakfast was at Mei Ling St Hawker Centre where we were joined by David Teo.
